Where It All Began
People Risk Consulting began as What Works Consultants in 2016. When Diane Dye Hansen automated herself out of a job at a software company in Carson City, the state of Nevada unemployment office told her she would have to quit her Masters of Communication Management program at the University of Southern California, Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism to claim unemployment. Diane was only four months into her program and was determined to stay in school. So, the next day, she declined unemployment and opened What Works Consultants (WWC).
How We Transformed into PRC
Originally centered around internal communication, What Works Consultants worked with organizations to identify communication risks and developed stakeholder centric communication. The course of the work at WWC began to reveal a deeper, more strategic issue. Organizations began approaching WWC asking for work around mitigating performance risk. This began with work on OKRs and KPIs and developed into transforming human resources processes. A long-term relationship with her client, Vitality Unlimited (clients since 2017), uncovered a deeper need – the need to involve employee voice in risk management, change management, and continuous improvement. This realization, along with knowledge gained in her Doctorate of Education (EdD) program in Organizational Change and Leadership at USC Rossier School of Education, prompted a permanent pivot of the firm in 2024 to People Risk Consulting. Today, PRC helps leaders leverage employee data to mitigate risk, drive change, and improve company performance to increase revenue and sustainability.
Our Passion
Our Founder and CEO, Diane Dye Hansen, is passionate about the role of disclosure (use of voice in the workplace) and the creation of environments that support psychological safety. She believes when employees and leaders feel safe to speak up, organizations can create risk aware cultures and enhance inclusion, belonging, wellbeing, safety, performance, innovation, and learning. This passion is a thread that runs throughout our work with clients. Diane is native to and operates from San Antonio, Texas. PRC consultants work remote throughout the United States.
Frameworks Used
PRC is a no-cookie cutter firm. We use validated theoretical frameworks across disciplines and choose the framework that fits the situation best. We don’t shove situations into frameworks. Our proprietary ID Framework measures disclosure and disclosure preparedness in relation to incidents, identity, ideas, and instructional needs. We utilize quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods studies to understand our clients’ environments and provide highly customized solutions to complex problems.
During the pandemic, Diane published Creating Critical Opportunity, a workbook created to help leaders ideate when experiencing problem situations. You can get the workbook on Amazon.com
